maxGEO has secured the contract for instrumentation and monitoring during construction of the new converter station at Folkestone (UK).
The converter station will be located within the perimeter of the Eurotunnel operational Channel Tunnel terminal as part of the Channel Tunnel Interconnector Project delivered by ElecLink.
400kV AC underground cables will connect the Converter Stations to the TSO’s high voltage substations: Sellindge (NGET, UK) and Les Mandarins (RTE, France) located several kilometres from the respective terminal perimeter fence. Between the two Converter Stations, an HVDC cable connection will be installed in the Tunnel.
Siemens has been awarded to supply a link between the French and British power grids and Züblin Spezialtiefbau will be responsible for the Piling and substructure works at Folkestone converter station.

ElecLink is an HVDC power bridge to connect the British and French power grids via a DC cable running 51 kilometers through the Channel tunnel. Siemens is to supply two converter stations featuring its latest HVDC technology for project.
